Research Title: The First Grade Afternoon: Making it Meaningful and Productive for our Students Research Year: 2008 Research Classification: Student Support/Enrichment Research Summary: This research project examined  first grade afternoon, and considering how to make the time with the children from noon until our 2:40 dismissal most effective. We noticed at the start of the year that the afternoon brought many challenges in terms of keeping students engaged and productive. The research started by making changes to recess and lunch schedules.  The study examined, in depth, the students’ personal and social needs throughout the day and how these characteristics affect their learning.  The study also examined what can be done to help students stay focused through the afternoon.

Research Title: The Shared Classroom Model: How to Make it Work for You and Your Students Research Year: 2007 Research Classification: Curriculum Development,Professional Development, Student Support/Enrichment ,Support Services to Schools Research Summary: We are reflecting on our shared classroom experience thus far, and using this information to plan for the rest of SY 2006-2007, and SY 2007-2008. Some conclusions have been made in an ongoing fashion, with adjustments being made to our current classroom model. Further conclusions will be used to write a comprehensive beginning-of-the-year checklist for teachers who are setting up shared classrooms, as well as suggestions for how to best provide for students and families in the class. Our data will include journal entries, parent questionnaires, and student interviews.
